Joost van de Goor

Joost van de Goor…

  • Was born on the 24th of November 1956, in Tilburg, The Netherlands.
  • Studied to be a teacher for a primary school from 1975 through 1978.
  • Went to the Tilburg conservatory in 1978. Took composition lessons with Jan van Dijk until 1983.
  • Was a member of the ‘Elektro-Instrumentaal Ensemble’ from 1979 through 1989. Discovered the music and writings of John Cage.
  • Attended the Darmstadt summer course in 1982 and 1984. Was influenced by Morton Feldman.
  • Has written a number of compositions over the years, mainly chamber music. Many of them have been played in several countries. Some have been recorded and broadcasted by radio stations in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany.
  • Has moved away from composing music in 1990, for a considerable number of years.
  • Has returned to music in 2003. Calls this decision the start of his “second life” in music.
  • Was gratefully encouraged and advised by Daan Manneke in refinding his own musical language.
  • Lives and works in The Netherlands.
